A consultation with an immigration attorney can cost up to $400.00. I have both charged consultation fees of $75 - $100 and offered free consultations but have found that the majority of those seeking free consultations were there for free information and not to seriously pursue a strategy to improve or change their immigration status which became a drain on my time and unfair to the time commitment that clients who have already engaged my services deserved. Immigration law can be complex and not a "one size fits all" solution through the submittal of a single form or forms. In these consultations, a lawyer is dedicating his time and expertise to proper case analysis and strategy and should not be compared on the level of a 5 minute consultation with an immigration document preparation service or notario. Therefore, I charge a base rate of 50.00 per consultation and am willing to credit the consultation fee to a prospective client once a written agreement is entered into.
